About IIES

Sixty three years after independence, the world acknowledges India as a 'giant economy in the making'. The tag of 'giant economy', however, brings with it several challenges. The twin challenges of (1) improving the welfare of a substantial chunk of its population and (2) containing India's carbon emission which tops the list, somehow. Needless to say, energy becomes a major force that binds our response strategies to meet these challenges. In other words, the effectiveness of our response strategies solely depend on how well we produce, consume and manage energy.

The current situation warrants a 'revolution', an 'Orange Revolution', to ensure energy security for the country through balancing the diversified forces of technology, policies, and market mechanisms, involving all stakeholders. As a first step towards Orange Revolution, Vijnana Bharati, Society of Energy Engineers and Managers (SEEM) and VNIT have taken the initiative to organize the 1st India International Energy Summit (IIES), during 28th - 30th January 2011 at VNIT, Nagpur, India.

IIES 2011 will induce fresh thinking into this subject through the concept of Orange Revolution to provide a unique solution-centric platform to all stakeholders to deliberate on issues related to our energy security. IIES 2011 will focus on the theme 'Sustainable Energy Development: a time for innovations and integrated planning'. An energy expo has also been planned as part of this Summit. The deliberations at this 4-day event will not only touch upon government policy and industry developments but also provide first-hand information and knowledge on recent technology trends, clean energy projects, energy efficiency, emission reduction policy, climate change, and environmental initiatives.

The Summit will have special focus on renewable energy. Besides showcasing innovative policy suggestions and technology intervention models, the Summit will also explore fresh business opportunities in the sector.
